This talk will give a brief description of gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines, and how they compare to port fuel injection (PFI) engines.  It will discuss the implications of these hardware changes on performance and emissions.  It will also discuss the role of fuel additives, and some of the tests the industry is developing to evaluate GDI engine performance.

Carl is a Sr Specialist working in the Customer Technical Services group at Afton Chemical Corporation.  He has 11 years of experience in the lubricant and fuels additives industry.  Prior to coming to Afton, he spent 6 years at Clorox Research & Development working with household cleaners and other products.  Carl earned a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of South Florida, and his PhD in Polymer Science & Engineering from the University of Southern Mississippi.
