Apply for the Chevron Research Award of Excellence in Honor of John Bacha

IASH is looking for young scientists/engineers (within 5 years of graduation) who are interested in submitting papers for consideration to receive the Chevron Research Award of Excellence in Honor of John Bacha. The award will be presented to a young researcher who authors and presents a paper at the 16th International Symposium on Stability, Handling and Use Liquid Fuels. The conference will be held September 8 - 12, 2019 in Long Beach, California. It will be comprised of four days of technical sessions with a separate poster session and will begin with an opening reception on Sunday evening. A commercial exposition will run throughout the symposium.

IASH is the foremost international organization devoted to all aspects of the stability, handling, and use of liquid fuels from refinery to end use and disposal. IASH fulfills its vision by promoting research and experimentation on the scientific and operational factors affecting the stability, handling, and use of fuels during their manufacture, blending, transportation, storage and final use or disposal by using volunteers drawn from a cross-section of government, academia and industry.

THE AWARD was created to encourage young scientists and engineers to join and enrich the industry. The award is open to both undergraduate and graduate students up to five years after graduation, and shall be part of their own project work that either they have led or have been a primary team participant.

THE AWARDEE will receive the following:

  • Plaque in recognition of their accomplishment
  • Complimentary Symposium Registration
  • Travel & Accommodation at Host Hotel
  • Stipend for Incidentals

If the research is done by a team, one person shall be chosen by the team to attend the conference and present the paper.

ABSTRACTS of approximately 250 words in English are due by February 13, 2019. Manuscripts must be submitted by April 15, 2019 to be eligible to win the award. Award winner(s) will receive notification by June 17, 2019. Eligibility Criteria:

  • The recipient shall be the presenter of the paper at the conference.
  • The recipient shall be a major author, preferably the first author.
  • The student does not have to be a full-time student but shall be within five years of graduation. If part of a team, all team members must meet the criteria. The work presented shall be part of their own project work that they either have led or have been a primary team participant.

Award Details:

  • The recipient shall receive a plaque in recognition of his/her award.
  • The recipient shall receive complimentary registration at the conference.
  • The recipient shall receive a travel award and a $500 stipend.

Timeline:

  • The abstract shall be submitted to the IASH Administrator no later than February 13, 2019.
  • Manuscript shall be submitted to the IASH Administrator no later than April 15, 2019.
  • Judging shall be completed by June 1, 2019.
  • Winner(s) will be notified by June 17, 2019.
  • The award shall be presented during the IASH 2019 Conference to be held September 8 – 12, in Long Beach, California.
